Innovation for the Creative and Cultural Industries (ICCI) is an initiative which recognises Plymouth University’s considerable expertise in creative and cultural education, research and practice, and is closely linked to the institution’s key ‘Enterprise’ agenda. The ICCI initiative aims to provide a central point for the development, communication and project management of creative and cultural activities, external projects and related academic research.
ICCI and igloo vision work collaboratively to promote the profile of 360º projection and content creation and support local, national and international filmmakers by delivering 360º filming workshops and providing screening opportunities within the ICCI360 Arena at a wide range of public events and digital arts festivals.
The ICCI360 Arena in Weymouth was a key project within the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad by the Sea, Maritime Mix programme. Situated in the prime location of the Weymouth Pavilion Theatre Forecourt for a six week period from the 26th July to 9th September 2012, the event attracted over 26,000 visitors.
ICCI provided specialist training workshops and support for filmmakers and artists who developed work for the 360 degree screen environment. Over 100 films and animations were produced for the programme alongside 45 live performance events, 16 workshops, 3 mini festivals: (dance and movement, music and artist moving image) and 15 interactive 360 degree multi-player gaming sessions.
Collaborative projects during the Olympic Games Sailing events included hosting an RNLI fundraising event, as well as VIP reception launches for Dorset based b-side Multimedia Arts Festival and Quest South West in collaboration with Arts Council England.
The ICCI360 Arena was the official screening venue in Weymouth for the Channel 4 Paralympic Games coverage as well as hosting the Paralympic Flame, in collaboration with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council. Other disability related events took place in collaboration with Dorset County Council and Bournemouth University.
The programme was supported by Plymouth University, Arts Council England, London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and Igloo Vision Ltd.
ICCI currently hosts a 9m ‘Igloo 360 cinemax’ facility in Plymouth as a test and development centre that supported the creation and development of new material which was showcased in the ICCI360 Arena during the 2012 events.
